ANNIVERSARY

Wow, I totally forgot that Theology Gaming celebrated its One Year Anniversary(TM) last week! Wow, does time go fast!

So what exactly do I say? Well, it’s been quite a long road. I made a commitment at the beginning that I would post one long-form essay a day, and somehow I’ve kept that commitment. It’s required a lot of thought and commitment to a singular task, but by golly I did it. Our contributors also helped in that goal (even if I was writing at the same time), as they wrote about stuff and took out time out of their busy schedules to write something for an obscure theology blog/website. Thanks to Patrick Gann, M. Joshua Cauller, Yann Wong, Bryan Hall, Ted Loring, and Eun-Woo Chung for even bothering to write anything at all. Thanks guys (and thanks for being on the podcast too, whichever ones of you were on it).

Thanks as well for debating me on everything and challenging me. Believe you me, you guys gave me so much fodder to write and so much food for thought that, sometimes, my head feels like it’s bursting and I need to write at some ungodly hour.

Special thanks to Joseph Mazzaglia for helping out with the first couple podcasts. Now to get him on a few more…same goes for Ryan Egnet!

They gave me some leeway at points to do other task…

…such as setting up the podcast. I had no idea how to start one nor make it work, but somehow it came together. With a little help from Skype and MP3 Skype Recorder, I found it easy and simple. The editing process I hate, but the recording process is much more fun. Talking to people about video games – who’d have thought people would want to listen to our esoteric brand of Christian themes, bizarre and inappropriate comedy, and heavy issues? And maybe video games? Special thanks to Ted again for contributing theme songs to the podcast as well! And thank you all for having jobs, which forces me to wake up at 6AM and do a podcast on two hours of sleep. Morning amnesia is a wonderful feeling!

Thanks to GameChurch for letting me write some weird articles on there! Thanks to Drew Dixon and Richard Clark for tightening up my rambly writing for a general audience, and thanks to all the GameChurch writers for hashing it out with me, from serious to petty topics (Jordan Ekeroth, Matthew Duhamel, Luke Larsen, Steve Sukkau, Jared Chadwick, et al). Thanks for meeting up with me at PAX East! And thanks to all the GC people in general; it’s been interesting finding Christians who like game culture that much, and a pleasure to be part of this community.

Thanks to Brian Castleberry at Substance TV for letting me write for him, as well as participating in the Pixel Fusion podcast. Say, I do need an outlet for all that mechanical talk sometimes, and it’s a perfect outlet. Here’s to bigger and better things!

And most of all, thanks to you, the reader. Without you commenting and saying things, I probably wouldn’t be writing. Nor would I be fielding angry comments. Keep sharing this stuff, and let’s have some debates! And let us hope that God blesses this project as we go into yet another year, and maybe find out what exactly we’re supposed to do with this.

God bless,
