Podcast #15 – Steam Sale 2013 Edition!

Theology Gaming Podcast Logo

Given the title, you should not expect an explication of the Biblical theology of wealth! Moreover, Steam Sales don’t allow for that sort of thing (kidding!)

Rather, listen to Ted Loring, M. Joshua Cauller, and Bryan Hall discuss (along with me, Zachery Oliver, host) about Bastion, Half-Life, Steam Summer Sale, Hotline Miami, Torchlight II, CD Projekt, The Witcher, The Witcher II: Assassin of Kings, Gunpoint, fake trading cards, Yosumin!, Ys Chronicles I+II, Penny Arcade on the Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness 4, Bit.Trip Runner, Under the Ocean, Dragon Age, Lost in Blue, The Neverhood, Cart Life, Receiver. Jurassic Park Trespasser, Surgeon Simulator 2013, Dead Island, Toki Tori, Rogue Legacy, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Mass Effect 3, Bulletstorm, and a whole bunch of game for smart phones and tablets, geeze!

And Pacific Rim for some reason

About Zachery Oliver

Zachery Oliver, MTS, is the lead writer for Theology Gaming, a blog focused on the integration of games and theological issues. He can be reached at viewtifulzfo at gmail dot com or on Theology Gaming’s Facebook Page.
  • This was a lot of fun. I got a few more titles than I included in our conversation, but I’ll include them all for (narcissistic) ref:

    Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition
    Under the Ocean
    Receiver
    Surgeon SImulator
    Toki Tori
    Gunpoint
    Cart Life
    Dead Island
    RPG Maker VX Ace
The Yawhg (not a Steam game, but purchased while it was going on, so yeah…)
Anodyne (Got through GreenManGaming, but still including it)
    Rage
    Skulls of the Shogun

    So what’s your final damage?

    • Zachery Oliver

I figured I was going to run out of title tags at a point.

My final total isn’t too bad. Got some strange stuff:

      Ys I+II Chronicles
      Yosumin!
Penny Arcade’s On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 4
      Torchlight II
      Left 4 Dead 2
      X-Com: Enemy Unknown
      Strike Suit Zero (Plus DLC)
      NiGHTS into Dreams
      Super House of Dead Ninjas
      Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe
      Worms Blast
      Worms Crazy Golf

What can I say? I have strange tastes. And so do you!

      • I think our tastes are vaguely similar if one looks at these lists. We both picked a four-player shooter, a turn-based strategy RPG, and a plentiful amount of recently-made games with retro aesthetics. 🙂

I was really considering Strike Suit Zero, but I opted out because I wasn’t curious enough. You’ll have to tell me what you think of it!

        • Zachery Oliver

I hear SSZ is something of a space shooter. It looked more akin to Rogue Squadron than anything I’ve seen in recent years, so I feel duty-bound to go play it.

          • Yeah. I was into it for the exact same reason, just didn’t pull the pay-trigger. The reviews were really all over the place. IGN gave it a 7.5 while Eurogamer gave it a 3. Nuts.

          • Zachery Oliver

Divisive reviews usually mean the game’s pretty interesting! I’m usually concerned when everyone thinks a game is the best thing since bread being sliced.
